new writing

Widsith welcomes unsolicited submissions. We accept submissions from writers resident in the UK and are keen to work with writers from a diverse range of backgrounds.

All scripts will be read by experienced theatre professionals and the writer will receive a written report.

Plays are selected for workshops mainly on the quality of the writing. However Widsith is particularly interested in plays that open our eyes to the world around us, illuminate the human condition, or show a passion for and engagement with theatre as a medium.

In order to ensure that all submissions are considered equally, we ask that writers submit their work blind to us. Please ensure that none of the author’s details appear on any page of the script. Please include a sealed envelope with your script containing a covering letter with the writers contact details in it. If you wish to include other information, such as a CV, this must also be placed within the sealed envelope. Please write the name of the play on the front of the envelope.

Scripts must:

  • be written for the stage
  • be full length
  • be typed
  • have page numbers

Your submission should contain:

  • your script (the author’s details must not appear on any page of it)
  • a sealed envelope containing a covering letter with the author’s contact details
  • the envelope must be labelled with the title of the play you are submitting
  • a stamped addressed envelope covering return postage

Scripts sent without return postage will be recycled. A reader’s report on the play will only be sent if either an SAE or an email address is provided.

We do not accept submissions via email. Please do not send scripts by recorded or special delivery.

Please send submissions to:
